Do It Yourself?

Galatians 2:21 - I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! - At the time this scripture was written Jewish religious leaders were (and still are) telling their followers that they had to obey the old testament law in order to be saved. The old testament law is a set of "rules" on how to live given to the Jews by God in the old testament.  Most everyone knows the Jewish religious leaders have always rejected Christ because he preached a different message than they were and didn't fit their idea of what the Savior would be like, so when the Bible says that Christ freed us from the law they reject that too. They're convinced that the works of their own hands will save them because they obey the old testament law. Unfortunately some Christians have been taught similar things in their churches today, that their own works can save them if their good enough . It is our natural way of thinking to believe that God will save us because we aren't so bad and have done more good things than bad. But if this was actually possible for us to do it would not have been necessary for Christ to come here and die for our sins. He could have stayed in Heaven with his father and completely avoided a lot of trouble due to us.  As the Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:9 - He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace...-We are called to do good works, not for salvation but in order to serve God and please him. If we try to save ourselves by our works we are refusing God's free gift of salvation. Click the link on the right to learn all about Christ.
